The Loomba Trust

The Loomba Trust

Pankaj Nayyar/Partner and contributor to the Loomba Trust.

The Loomba Foundation was established in the UK on 26 June 1997, by my uncle Raj and Veena Loomba in memory my uncle's late mother Shrimati Pushpa Wati Loomba (grandmother of Pankaj Nayyar), who became a widow at the age of 37 and succeeded in educating her seven children single-handed.

My grandmother had never received any formal education herself and yet my late mother  was one of her fortunate daughters who graduated from the Punjab University in 1958, when most of the girls were not even going to schools in the Fifties in India.

By enabling children to re-engage with education, the Loomba Foundation aims to break a vicious cycle of poverty and ensure that the next generation of poor widows' children have a better future.

All beneficiaries of the Loomba Foundation are selected irrespective of Gender, Religion or Class and scholarships are guaranteed for a period of five years, initially.

Loomba Trust Projects / Achievements to date

I am proud to have supported the education of 100 children of poor widows for a year in 2005 in the State of Himachal Pradesh in the north of India, who would not have had any opportunity to receive an education.

I encourage you to support the work of the Loomba Foundation. Please see the attached Foundation's profile and visit the website: to learn more about the work and activities of the Loomba Foundation.
